WHAT: 9/11 Unity Walk-NYC
WHO: Religions for Peace-USA – an interfaith non-profit organization that works to foster religious communities working together to build a society of peace and justice; and 911 Unity Walk – A grassroots interfaith movement that creates ways for people of all faiths and those affiliated with no faith tradition to walk together, honoring those who practice nonviolence, peace and compassion in a transformative remembrance of 9/11.
WHEN: Monday 9/11/06 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
WHERE: 5:00 p.m.: gather at the Gandhi memorial of Union Square Park (SW corner); 5:30 p.m. begin walk to various places of worship in lower Manhattan; 7:15 p.m.: interfaith closing ceremony at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church near the World Trade Center site; estimated: 3 mile distance.
WHY: In collaboration with the second annual 9/11 Unity Walk in Washington D.C. on 9/10, the New York City Unity Walk is organized by Religions for Peace-USA as a celebration of interfaith unity and hope on a day often recognized for revenge and despair. Beginning at the Union Square Park Gandhi Memorial, we will walk three miles to the World Trade Center site, stopping for music, prayer and refreshments at diverse houses of worship along the way. All are welcome to walk with us in this demonstration of unity and hope on 9/11
