Bio

Exactly one year after swearing herself in as a citizen of the United States of America, Seeme Gull Hasan gave birth to an All-American baby boy, on July 4th of 1980. She named him Muhammad Ali Hasan.

Muhammad grew up in the steel mill town of Pueblo, Colorado, where he spent most of his days attached to his mother’s hip, going from meeting to meeting, where he would sit in on all of her social work activities. It was here where Muhammad learned the value of hard work and the importance of bettering our communities through both charitable and political work. With his mother's charitable work extending all over the state, Muhammad found himself growing up in Eagle County, Denver, and Pueblo all at once.

Muhammad eventually decided to study in Los Angeles, where he graduated Cum Laude from Occidental College. As an Independent Pattern of Study student, Muhammad designed his own major that combined education, environmental science, and filmmaking, all into one major which he called Urban & Environmental Filmmaking, but nicknamed The Ronald Reagan major, in honor of a President who brought media and politics together.

Muhammad’s college activities kept him out of the classroom, more often, than inside it. As an education student, he served as a TYRO teacher in public school system of East Los Angeles. As an environmental scientist, he worked directly with Dr James Sadd in developing geographic information systems analysis; and as a filmmaker, he produced his Honors project, LOSANGELES::HEAVEN, a narrative feature film about Los Angeles’s biggest problems and how we can solve them.

The film was inspired by Hasan’s work as an environmentalist and schoolteacher. However, Hasan’s favorite college project took place in 2002 at Franklin High School of Los Angeles, a school with a poverty rate that exceeds 80%. It was inside an 11th grade English class of Franklin High School that Hasan facilitated the film production of a modern version of The Crucible, an activity that allowed the students to write and direct scenes of the book they were reading for that semester, instead of writing book reports. The end result showed that students scored higher by filming the story, rather than writing about it.

Muhammad also got to work as the main teaching assistant to Dr James Sadd, a leading environmental scientist of California. With Dr Sadd, Muhammad did an in-depth study of Colorado's water issues, as well as a study on the correlations between school test scores, location, and race in the state of California. Both studies were done using Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) analysis.

Muhammad moved onto Chapman University, where he received a Masters in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Film Directing. At Chapman, Muhammad was directly mentored by John Badham (Director of Saturday Night Fever and Short Circuit) and Oscar Award winner, David Ward. In 2006, Muhammad was named as a finalist in the Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker competition, along with his partner Aaron Matthew Burns, where the pair were invited by Coca-Cola to compete in their yearly short film contest. Muhammad was also named a Panavision Emerging Filmmaker of 2007 for his directing work on independent film, Rabia. Muhammad left Chapman University as a filmmaker who was directly sponsored by Eastman-Kodak Film, Panavision, and Color By Deluxe, three of Hollywood's most influential companies. Muhammad currently owns and operates his own production company, Rabia LLC, based out of Colorado.

In development for Muhammad is his documentary, Waziri Bride, a story about an Islamic arranged marriage, as well as other future projects.

It was right after the tragic 9/11 attacks that Muhammad represented American Muslims twice, on Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect, as well as various media appearances on National Public Radio and other radio stations. Material about his experiences as an American Muslim in the poverty-stricken, walled-city of Old Lahore, Pakistan, has been discussed in different forums, including C-SPAN's Book TV. In filming the Old Lahore city, Hasan came to find that Pakistan's most economically disadvantaged citizens are America's biggest supporters, and have driven him to inform others about the opportunities that America has in cultivating support against Al-Quaida, within the people of the Muslim World.

Muhammad’s greatest goals are to continue building strong bridges between America and the Muslim World, because to Muhammad, American ideals and convictions are shared and celebrated by Islam. In advocating for greater bridges, Hasan has not only setup Muslims For Bush and Muslims For America, but has spread his message through the outlets of Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, BBC, and much print and radio. Muhammad still serves as a political commentator for Fox News and BBC Radio.

A former political commentator for CNBC's The Dennis Miller show and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, Muhammad will continue to work for the thing that motivates him most – America.

freedom, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, Islam, and America!
